A land regeneration project in Andalucia, Spain.
"Permaculture is a philosophy of working with rather than against nature; of protracted and thoughtful observation rather than protracted and thoughtless labour; and of looking at plants and animals in all their functions, rather than treating any area as a single product system."
Regeneration and Agroforestry
Our aim is to reforest part of this land with locally adapted trees and grow tree crops using permaculture and organic principles. We work with the local ecosystems, conserve water and regenerate healthy soil.
Andalucia is at high risk of desertification. Industrial agriculture using ploughing, pesticides and chemically fed monocultures is an important contributing factor. We want to do our bit to change that.
By working with nature, and caring for the life of the land. We are planting mixed tree crops, using cover crops, including local wild plants, and mulching using contour lines. We will minimise irrigation, and use no harmful chemicals.
Nurturing the landscape
The finca (farm) is in Mairena del Alcor, Seville, which takes its name from the limestone escarpment, alcor, that runs to Carmona. There are neolithic settlements in the area and roman water galleries.
